Even when a mid autumn frost hits they can usually still pull out 1400 food. I don't use the order system for seeds, so I don't have squash yet but they should work better for my climate. When you have 2 guys, there is almost always going to be at least 1 farmer picking crops even if the other is doing other shit. This problem gets magnified if your town gets in a pinch in food/firewood/tools, because they're constantly on the move to get more of those resources and often going far for them. I prefer 2 man fields because in all my time before the mods came out in my original install single man fields would work until my town got above 500 people, and then harvests would go down significantly because that single farmer going for herbs or materials or whatever (even with market right next to him, he could and would still go all the way to the mining sector for no reason I could discern) would really impact harvest time. When I first installed CC I couldn't remember my crop sizes from when I first played (i hadnt reinstalled after an OS and drive reformat), so I just experimented a bit and while I havn't tried all sorts of sizes i've had quite a bit of success with my 18x15 fields surrounded on all 4 sides with roads.
